The installation on the 1855m long route begins in the heart of the Ulm city, the Münsterplatz. Why a path?

Our intention is to explore the various locations and places on the way to Wilhelmsburg with dance and other artistic forms of expression. QR Codes placed along the way offer the public access to online videos of the dancers and artistic actions, which can inspire the public on new ways to interpret the path…

With the temporary path, we would like to offer Ulm’s residents and visitors the opportunity to participate actively in the shaping of everyday public space. A penetration of the daily habits is achieved by incorporating and stimulating extraordinary movements in the daily routines of the known ways, to reinterpret them. We want to provoke the visible participation in the street and in the city. In addition, “Step by Step” provides groups and schools with a learning environment, realized as a platform for various associations. Our goal is to develop a program in which all their ideas contribute, creating a new common space for art, culture and creative ideas.

The Program

The ‘Step by Step’ program consists of the core of Moving Rhizomes’ dance development in cooperation with clubs, groups and schools. The Dance video, developed in the further process, serves as the basis for the interpretation of the path in various public actions by artists, artist groups and other participants. As #mannequinchallenge, #dancingjam etc …. These components of the program are developed, documented, and so on throughout the entire process of the project. In the end, a documentary of the way is created from all the different creative interventions that represent Ulm, its inhabitants and residents in numerous facets.

Our ultimate goal is that this path has a final video from all the different creative interventions that are essentially Ulm and its inhabitants.

We will try to encourage citizens and visitors to dance in Wilhelmsburg as an alternative to the car or public transport.

Please visit the program to see more details about the dates and times of the individual events.
